Women Empowerment and gender equality are the most important requirements for the upliftment and progress of our nation. In efforts to make Guru Nanak College of Education a strong kernel of gender sensitization, the Women Cell was constituted. The Cell has both the faculty and students of the college, as its members and works with an aim to create a gender sensitized community within the campus as well as in the society. It will organise various academic, medical, cultural and social events for the upliftment of women and spread the real importance of gender equality in the society through college students.

Obectives of the Cell

Objectives of the cell are as follows:
1.To maintain and strengthen the status of women.
2.To create awareness of feminine potential.
3.To create social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination.
4.To enhance self-esteem and self confidence among female staff and students. 5.To prevent sexual harassment and the promotion of the general well-being of female students and staff of the institute.
6.To organise various types of activities, training programs, seminars, workshops etc.to create general awareness to both male and female teachers, students and encourage them for their participation in the activities of the Cell.
7.To encourage the participation of NGO’s working in the area of women’s development, in the activities of the College Cell.
8. To facilitate gender sensitive and congenial working environment at college.
9.To guide the students and teachers regarding lodging a grievance related to various issues related to women, in the Cell.

Procedure:

1. Women Cell will organise various activities related to Women Empowerment and Cell will also conduct Talks/Seminars/Workshops/Exhibitions etc. related to women empowerment.
2. NGO’s will be approached for conducting awareness programmes for women development.
3.Female participants will be honoured with awards / certificates for taking initiatives in women related programs.
4. It will also be compulsory for all female staff members to participate in all activities to promote the women empowerment, organised in the campus.
5. Women employee or female student can lodge a complaint concerning any issue or sexual harassment against any person in written form on the form available in the Women cell. 6. However, if the complainant so desires, her name shall be kept confidential and will not be revealed even to Cell.
7. In case the complainant requests that complaint should be proceeded with beyond a mere warning, the same may be proceeded.
8. The complaint regarding women issues will try to be resolved within a week with proper follow up.
9. Any person who is found guilty of sexual harassment will be liable to be punished.

Feedback: Feedback will seek from students as well as from teachers rather negative or positive on different aspects like behaviour of committee members and satisfaction after interacting with them, how activities are helpful in making them bold and are helpful in developing their personality etc. and their suggestions will be implemented for further improvements.

Follow Up: follow- up will be done by the members of the committee even after resolving the issues or by keeping in view the positive as well as negative feedback given by the students or teachers concerned throughout the Session.
